Short answer: Marukyu Koyamaen does not publish restock dates, and no US shop can honestly promise one. Tins arrive in limited lots and the popular 40g sizes often sell out within days. The most reliable way to get one is to join a restock alert for the exact tin you want and to buy promptly when the email arrives.
If you have been refreshing product pages for Isuzu, Wako, Kinrin or Unkaku, you are not alone. This page explains why Marukyu Koyamaen tins are so hard to find, what we are seeing on our own shelf, and how our restock alerts work.
Why Marukyu Koyamaen tins sell out
The harvest is fixed. The best matcha is made from tencha picked in the first spring flush. There is one first harvest a year, so a matcha house cannot simply make more of a popular tea in the middle of the season.
Milling is slow. Matcha is ground from tencha leaf into a very fine powder, and careful grinding takes time. That limits how much finished matcha a house can release in any given week.
Demand has grown much faster than supply. Interest in matcha in the US has risen sharply in the last few years, and well-known houses like Marukyu Koyamaen feel it first. Shops everywhere are receiving smaller lots than they order.
Importing costs more. Since late August 2025, shipments from Japan pay a 15% US tariff and no longer qualify for the de minimis exemption, which adds cost and paperwork to every lot that crosses the Pacific.
The SAINTCHA restock log
We will keep a dated record here of what we see on our own shelf, so you have real numbers instead of rumors. The live, always-current view is the restock tracker, which is built from our inventory each time the page loads.

How our restock alerts work
- Open the restock tracker or the product page of the sold-out tin.
- Choose "Email me when it's back" and enter your email.
- When that tin is back on the shelf, we email the people waiting for it.
You can also join the general restock list at the top of the tracker and tell us which tin you are waiting for. List members hear about a restock before we post it publicly. We do not send spam, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
How to avoid paying a scalper markup
When a tin is scarce, resale listings appear at two or three times the usual price. Before you pay one, compare it with a normal US shop price. At SAINTCHA, Marukyu Koyamaen 40g tins cost $37 to $60 in October 2026, and our guide to buying Marukyu Koyamaen in the USA lists every price. Check that the tin is sealed and dated, and be wary of any listing that will not show the date. If you can wait a few weeks, a restock alert almost always costs less than a markup.
What to drink while you wait
If your usual tin is gone, a close alternative can carry you to the next restock.
- Waiting for Isuzu or Wako for usucha? Try a Yamamasa Koyamaen tin such as Samidori or Matsukaze, also from Uji.
- Waiting for a latte tea? Wakatake in the 100g bag is made for daily lattes, and the Aoarashi refill keeps the same Aoarashi cup going at a lower price per gram.
- Waiting for Kinrin or Unkaku for koicha? There is no perfect stand-in for a koicha tea, so this is where an alert matters most.
The compare page shows any two tins side by side if you want to check flavor and use before you switch.
Frequently asked questions
When will Marukyu Koyamaen restock?
There is no public schedule. Lots arrive irregularly, so a restock alert is the most reliable way to hear first.
Why is Marukyu Koyamaen matcha always sold out?
The first spring harvest is fixed, careful milling is slow, and US demand has grown faster than supply. Import tariffs since 2025 add cost to every lot.
Can I pre-order a sold-out tin?
Only when a product page shows a Pre-order button. Otherwise, sign up for the restock alert on that tin.
Are the restocked tins genuine?
Yes. Every original tin we sell is the producer's own pack, factory-sealed and never repacked, with a best-by month on its product page. We are an independent shop and not affiliated with Marukyu Koyamaen.
